The winners were announced last night (3 December) during a gala
reception held at the Royal Institute of British Architects building in London.
The big winner on the night was Brighter Future Workshop which
was presented with the award for the Best Social Enterprise of
2009.
Peter Cousins MBE, CEO of Better Future Workshop said:
"This is an incredibly exciting night for all of us and we are really
thrilled to have won. We believe in what we do and we can see the
difference we've made in the lives of many disabled people, both
through our recycling business and our training scheme, and
hopefully this award will enbale us to reach even more."
"The best social enterprises are innovative and inspiring business
models proving what can be achieved when social and environmental
values are placed at the heart of business practices.
"There is a strong public appetite for socially
responsible business, particular in the current economic climate, and
social enterprises have a key role to play in creating a more
responsible economy of the future. Across the UK, social enterprises
are providing solutions to some of our communities' most pressing
concerns.
We are very pleased to be supporting the Social Enterprise Awards in
rewarding and promoting Britain's best social enterprises."
